During the 18th and 19th generations, Europeans conquered and excavated areas of North Africa and the Levant. These areas now make up exactly what is called the Center East, but in the past ended up referred to as the Orient. Europeans sharply divided peoples into two broad groups – the European West plus the East or Orient; us and the opposite.
